XJ40 '86-'94  Square headlights

A new from the ground up British Leyland replacement for the old XJ6 which was the last of the William Lyons designs.
Evolution rather than revolution; it still looked as the public perceived a traditional Jaguar should look like.
Originally only offered in a straight 6 form as the engine bay was found to be too narrow to take the V12.
It is alleged the Jaguar designers built it that way to stop BL stuffing their old Rover V8 under the bonnet for them.
At the end of 1989 Ford bought Jaguar and set about altering the engine bay with some urgency
to allow the fabulous V12 to be shoehorned in.

XJ40 '86-'94   Round headlights

Base models had rounded headlamps rather than the 'modern' square units fitted to the plusher end of the scale.
I personally prefer the rounded headlamps as I feel it gives a much more balanced design... but that's me!

Total XJ40 production.... 208,706

All XJ models are available with mesh grilles, correct alloys & with light or dark shading  including Daimler models.

X300  XJ6 + X306 XJR  (Kiwi alloys shown)  Dark  '94-'97

With an all new XJ years away, a retro style reskinning of the boxy XJ40 was Ford's answer to the problem.
Chief designer Geoff Lawson came up with a graceful and feline looking saloon with traditional fluted bonnet
and four individual headlights.

X300  XJ6 + X306 XJR  (Kiwi alloys shown)  Light  '94-'97

Codenamed the X300, it was marketed as the XJ6 with 3.2 and 4.0 litre straight six engines.
The near identical X305 sported Jaguars old faithful 6 litre V12.
The X306 XJR of 1995 was the first Jaguar in history to ever be fitted with a supercharger.
It's 4 litre supercharged engine could generate 321bhp and was a superb mile-eating machine!

                X308 XJ8  (Milan alloys shown)  Dark  '98 - '02

New for '98, the X308 looked almost identical to the X300, but under the skin there were huge changes.
Gone was the old straight six - to be replaced by an all new V8 built in Wales.
There was a 3.2 litre with 240bhp, a 4.0 litre with 290bhp and a supercharged 4.0 litre knocking out 370bhp.

X308 XJ8  (20 spoke alloys shown)  Light  '98 - '02

Whilst the engines were all new, the basic design of the XJ8 was 12 years old and beginning to show its age.
Room in the back was at a premium and the dynamics of the car now left it outclassed by some of its European rivals.
It was still however a real Jaguar at heart and had a sense of 'Britishness' about it
that despite all its shortcomings still made it the best selling luxury saloon in the UK during its lifetime.

 X308 XJR  (Penta alloys shown)  Dark  '98 - '03

A luxury rocketship that was able to give Europe's best a run for their money.
An incredible machine that's turning into a collector's item.
At the moment they can be bought for reasonable money... but it's on the rise!

All XJ models are available with mesh grilles, correct alloys & with light or dark shading including Daimler models.

X350  XJ & XJR  series 1  (Elegant alloys shown)  '03-'05

2003, and an all new aluminium bodied third generation XJ arrives in the showroom.
Whilst traditional Jaguar in looks, it's one highly engineered technological masterpiece
designed to restore Jaguar back to where it belongs.... at the top of the luxury car ladder.

X350  XJ & XJR  series 2  (Sapang alloys shown + mesh grille)  '05-'07

Larger and lighter than the previous X308, the X350 came with either a 3.5 or 4.2 litre V8

     X358 XJ  series 3  (alloys spinning)  '07-'09

The end to Jaguars traditional saloons as the facelifted X358 run-out model makes it final bow in 2007.
A lower front grille and side 'power vents'  make for a more aggressive face.

X358  XJ  series 3  (dark shading - spinning wheels) '07-'09

X351  XJ  series 4  '09-  (light shading)

The Ian Callum designed X351 is a complete break from the traditional XJ mould of old.
Bigger, wider and longer, it bares more than a passing resemblance to the award winning XF saloon.
Built at Castle Bromwich the XJ is powered by either a 5 litre naturally aspirated or supercharged V8
or a twin-turbo 3 litre diesel.

X351  XJ  series 4  '09-  (dark shading)

Being so far removed from XJ designs from the past, it's not surprising it's not to every Jaguar lovers taste,
the rear end in particular divides opinion as to if it 'looks right' or not.
