The X Type was a rather nice traditionally styled compact executive
saloon designed under the final supervision of Geoff Lawson. Built at Ford's Liverpool Halewood facility alongside the Land Rover Freelander it was based on a much modified platform of the Ford Mondeo. Initially (to distance itself from its rather humble origins) it was only offered in 4WD until in 2003 Jaguar finally bit the bullet and for the first time offered a car in a front wheel drive format. 2004 saw the introduction of the rather elegant estate; only the second Jaguar estate ever produced. Very little of the exterior changed over its lifetime except for a new grille in its final year of production. 2.0 litre diesel versions could muster 128bhp whilst the 3.0 litre petrol V6 could give you a good 228bhp. Final models daparted the showrooms in 2010. |
