A traditional small 2 seater sportscar inspired by the old Lotus Elan. Design work for this the first generation (NA) went on throughout the 80's and the Mazda Experimental project number 5 (MX5) was finally introduced in 1989. Originally fitted with a 1.6 litre of 115bhp, this was increased in 1994 to 1.8 litre with 131bhp on tap. A gem of a little car! |

The second generation MX5 (NB) arrived in 1998. The main change came with the fixed headlights rather than the cute 'pop-up' set fitted to the NA series that no longer met pedestrian safety test standards. 142bhp now squeezed from the 1.8 litre engine that gave 130 mph performance. The top selling sportscar of all time, the MX5 lasted in its second generation (NB) until 2005 when the third generation (NC) made its appearance. |
