MGTD Roadster '49-'53 |
|||||||||||
|
MG; the name synonymous with British sports cars, and none comes better than
their post war TD still sporting the thirties tradition of fold flat screen, slab-tank bodywork and huge front wings with running boards. Most went for export as America loved them... and we needed the dollars, but many have since returned. Production 29,664 |

MGA Roadster with wires '55-'59 (light) |

A new and very different MG that was frowned upon by the Abingdon
traditionalists of the time. Built to take on the new Healeys and Triumphs that were wanting a piece of the new American market. A very pretty little sports-car that was good for 95+mph. Production 58,750 |

MGA Coupe '56 -'59 (dark) |

|
New for the 1956 London Motor Show and being a more superior aerodynamic shape
than the roadster it was a shade faster... just.... but once inside it all became a bit claustrophobic. A well balanced design, but not as popular as the roadster. |

Fashion dictated the odd minor styling tweak as the years rolled on by with
three differing facelifts. The original chromed slat gave way to a black recessed grille in 1970. This was followed in 1973 with a new type of honeycomb one. And still they kept coming off the production line. |

The MGC was BMC's answer to giving the 'B' some real performance that would give
a TR5/6 a good run for its money. It was supposed to replace the Austin Healey 3000 in 1967, but was never really good enough to fill the Big Healey's shoes. Its 3 litre straight six was certainly fast (118mph), but made the car too front heavy and the handling suffered as a consequence. The model lasted just 2 years with just under 10,000 being built. A much sought after car today. |

Inspired thinking from someone to slap a tin top onto the B. Alas it did nothing for its name... MG MGB GT |
1974... and the black bumpers arrive together with an increased ride height courtesy of America. |

What the MGC should have been! Rovers lightweight 3.5 V8 crammed under the MGB bonnet with amazing results.... 125+mph. Alas it didn't look different enough for the huge price increase and few were sold, which was a shame for such a brilliant car. Rare today and highly valued. Production 2,591 |

Austin Healey mkII with an MG grille. 948cc. with drum brakes all round up to 1962 '62 onwards and there is an 1098cc unit now fitted... plus front discs, so you can stop! Small and pretty little cars.... a real hoot to drive |

Enter British Leyland with black to burn! Black recessed grille, black sills, black rubber inserts to bumpers, Rostyle wheels with black coated innards. They shifted 77,831 of them, so they must have been doing something right. Still a great little motor to drive and a good introduction to classic car ownership! |

The MG versions were mostly in the two-tone livery and it suited the model
well. Did manage to look both sporty and pretty at the same time. Not bad for a small 4 door saloon. |
