Developed between 1995 -2000 within the Rover
Group as the classic Mini's replacement whilst under the ownership
of BMW. When BMW divested itself of Rover in 2000 it decided to take
with it the 'jewel in the crown', the New MINI project... and start
up production at its Oxford factory in April 2001. A massive hit from day one, it was initially a 3 door hatchback with a 1.4 litre engine (MINI One) and a 1.6 litre engine (Cooper). Build quality up to usual high German standards alas with prices to match.... gone are the days when Mini's were thrown together using a hammer. They must be doing something correct.... our family is on its fourth! |

A retro design based on the original 'Mini Cooper' look with differing
roof colour, plus the front wheel drive and a transverse engine.
However, there is one BIG difference between the old Mini and the
new Mini, the new one isn't mini at all.... it's HUGE! |

Cooper 'S' (dark) '01-'04 |

The addition of a supercharger ('S') transformed the Cooper into an
animal. Trouble was, because of that supercharger the battery now had to fit in the boot... so no spare tyre! |

Open air motoring MINI style; ... is it just me or does the cabrio
look a little odd with that roof down! I can't quite put my finger on it, but it doesn't sit right somewhere. |

MINI's first visit to the surgeon for a 'nip &
tuck'. Same as before really; there's not a lot you can do if you're not wanting to dilute all that cuteness. Inside the quality has been upped, but then those folding front seats did need some work doing on them. |

Officially a mkII and this time a brand new platform with every body
panel different! (Oh yes it is!) Raised front end and headlamps now fixed to the wings and not the bonnet. Highered waistline towards the back. It's also two and a half inches longer, (what ever happened to that idea of a mini car) so there's a tad more room for those back seat passengers. |
